Original Tuscan Window Treatments

Tuscan style of windows dates back to old times; but, still is quite popular in various homes in the European houses due to its authentic and simple look. Amongst various window treatments, Tuscan window treatment is probably the most inexpensive way to design your window but yet giving an elegant and stylish look to your home. The word Tuscan comes from the city Tuscany in Italy and is largely to do with the uniform window styles in Italy.

One of the most straightforward and undemanding methods to make a Tuscan window is to take out all the window frames and other treatments like curtains and decorate them with earthenware like pots, terracotta vases or urns of light shades. You can hang plain simple cotton curtain or just leave the window open without any, just leaving the pots and urns in the windowsills. This immediately gives a natural Tuscan look. Hanging roll shades of light colours is another common way to achieve great Tuscan looks. Terracotta potteries can also be put up on the wall around the window to accomplish beautiful Tuscan style.

Usually the shades of curtains used in Tuscan are earthen shades or plain white with some amount of embroidery or design to give a light and dreamy look. Also, the curtains are not very heavy and long but they are the same size of the window, barely covering the window opening. There are different styles of Tuscan window treatment. The first one being Renaissance cutwork. The name itself indicates embroidery patterns on soft cotton cloth, usually plain and white and it is commonly found in Tuscany city and other bigger Italian cities. Originally curtains like these used to be embroidered by hands but nowadays these are all machine made. These are available at a subsidised rate in Tuscany streets itself but offer great looks. Use of lace and crochet is also very common in Tuscan window treatments. Laces and crochet work offer the soft and delicate look to the windows. These types are often called as Crochet lace, lace borders and Lace or crochet inserts. Depending on where the crochet work or lace is placed in the curtain, it is named like that. Most of the embroidery techniques are unique with flowery themes on them.

The benefits of having a Tuscan window is firstly it is a low budget decoration and can fit into anyone’s pocket. It does not need a lot of extra cash to decorate your home like in other window treatments. Also, due to its simplicity and low cost factor, one can actually change the looks in the windows time and over again without spending a lot of money.
