A Guide for Large Wall Decor

Before you go about buying wall art, you should know that large wall décor is not just about the decorations or photos you have hanging on your wall. It also includes basics like the overall theme of the room, the type and size of furniture, the shade of paint on the wall, and of course the lighting.

If you want you can cover a big portion of a large wall by placing big furniture in the room, but make sure to arrange the furniture in such a way that it accentuates the wide wall, it’s better to situate them at right angles to the wall in order to create space.

When looking at colors to paint a room, consider light shades. Painting should be done with importance to the strokes, as vertical lines tend to attract gazes from up and down whereas horizontal lines tend to attract gazes from side to side. Now you can the lights, select the light source area carefully as lighting tend to produce shadows that make a large wall seem even bigger.

One of the most convenient and applicable decoration for large walls is wall stickers, wall papers and appliqués, since they do not require much effort to put up and are easy on the pocket.  There is a huge selection to choose from, therefore making the task of selecting a sticker quite difficult. However, on the upside, you can easily change the theme of the room if your child grows out of a phase or replace the stickers if you get bored of the first ones.

Another common and economical large wall décor is a photo display. You can do countless things with your favorite photos; make a photo medley or collage, arrange them in a step ladder fashion, or use contrasting frame colors.

Coming to costlier large wall décor, big clocks and mirrors are a unique choice. Mirrors can be found in many shapes and designs, often with metal work holding the glass in the center. These give a very classy look to any wall. But, you should keep in mind that if you decide to decorate your wall with a mirror the lights would have to be adjusted as you already know mirrors reflect light. As for clocks, antiques would be your best choice for something different.

Lastly, paintings and tapestries are obviously good large wall décor. Wall hangings of animal skin or printed quilts depicting some historical scene are a definite eye catcher. Even metal decorations, such as intricately designed or themed grilles, not only take up wall space but actually make it look good too.
